Pours pale golden with abundant airy head, effervescent . What, light malt and some sweet fruitiness in the aroma. Taste is light and sweet, but overall mouthfeel is watery and taste dissipates quickly. Difficult style to master, but good try.

GABF 2013. I stopped by Red Rock to try their Zwickelbier, but this turned out to be my favorite of their offerings. Pours a golden orange appearance with a creamy brown head. Big meaty, ham smoked aroma with some caramel sweetness and Noble hops. Not overly sweet flavor packed with a touch of peat, tons of smoked bacon, and burnt wood. Fucken chill brew.

GABF 2013. Pours a deep brownish black appearance with a light brown head. A bit burnt/smoky, roasty malty, chocolate, light coffee, herbal hoppy aroma. Burnt bready, light coffee, chocolate flavor. Reminds me of how much I can enjoy Schwarzbier, though this wasn’t world class by any means.

GABF 2013. Recommended by MJ. Pours a hazy golden appearance with a white head. Fairly soapy/floral hoppy, light citrus, somewhat spicy aroma. A bit bready yeasty, light lemon, grassy, herbal hoppy flavor. I got a bit too much soapy/floral notes in the beer for my liking but was glad I tried it.

Half liter bottle from Ale Yeah! Pours a.... GUSHER! Pours a clear amber color with a monstrous foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus and pine hops. The taste is citrus and piney hops, grapefruit, mild toffee malts and something slightly off.

On cask at the Bayou. Pours a cloudy amber/orange color with almost no head. A thin palate overall, not the lighter carb you’d expect from a cask, but just very little carbonation or body. A rich nose of pine, some fruit and light hops. The flavor is very well done: balanced juniper, some distinct orange peel, earthy, a bit of bitterness. Interesting. Herbal, drinks like a traditional ale from Scandinavia. With a better body it would be great.

Firkin at the brewery. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a medium white head. A big fruity hop nose. The flavor was big fruity hops, oranges, some light bitterness, caramel, light spicy french oak. Very good, robust. A nice cask palate. Nice!
