The 'national standard pale lager' of Martinique, in existence since 1922 so celebrating its centenary last year - which is why my sample, dating back several months, came with a celebrational label with silver letters announcing this birthday. Many thanks to Stéphane for bringing me this bottle straight from the beautiful island of Martinique! Thick, foamy, very regular, dense, stable, beaten egg-white, plaster-lacing, firm head on a crystal clear, pure 'old golden' beer with a central column of stormy sparkling rising up from the bottom. Aroma of old cotton cloth, dusty old breakfast cereals, brown cardboard, hints of rusty iron, white chewing gum and something very faintly grassy - and that is about it. Neutral onset, sparkling water-like almost, with lots of minerally carbonation effects; then developing a slick, thin cereally sweetishness with hints of corn, a vague touch of iron (or ferrous water) and plaster but remaining quite thin even in this style, ending with a very late, but noticeable and very mildly drying, 'powdery' and grassy hop bitterish note, volatile and thin, but so it this entire beer - so in the end, I feel this standard lager is quite balanced, if you get my drift. It does not rub its blandness and grainy sweetness in your face too much, it feels light and elegant and at least it does show a touch of hops for bitterness, however light; empty and predictably boring as it may be, this is not the worst in the international league of standardized 'wet air' lagers I have come across. It even reminds me a bit of Heineken - which is no surprise, considering this Dutch concern has been involved in the Lorraine brand since 1958 apparently. Better than expected really - I think some of the below ratings are even a tad harsh...

# 3392; 12/2022. Vague malty and fruity aroma. Cloudy gold body; persistent white head. Malty, apple, herbal. Below average international lager with bad fruity flavors. 0,33 l, bottle, supermarket, Forbach (Lorraine, France).

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 22. Brought by me. Thanks Eric. Hazed brown, off-white head. Tastes surprisingly old, overly sweet and oxidised unfortunately.. hard to rate accurately.

21st November 2022; Shrewsbury Beer Share, five guys and loads of beer. Cheers for the 33cl bottle of this Mat, my second beer from these guys. Clear golden amber body, white head. Sweet malty brew with caramel playing a part.

Bière pression bue en terrasse face à la mer au Carbet. Elle me rappelle une Heineken, et je découvre après l'avoir goûtée qu'elle appartient en effet à Heineken. Elle ne présente pas d'autre intérêt que d'être produite en Martinique donc c'est sympa pour découvrir les produits locaux. Après avoir testé une fois on n'y revient pas.
