Cask at Cromwells, Shrewsbury – I was obviously there prior to @minutemat ! Pours a healthy “bitter brown” with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has malts and nuts and just a hint of some hops. In the mouth it is sweet but with some underlying bitterness, Malts and floral hops vie for supremacy. Hints of bread crusts and autumn fruits as well. Finish is dry and slightly sticky. This is a decent old school bitter.

Cask @ Cromwell's Tap House. Last of the barrel. Hazed deep golden amber, white head. Malty nose. Flavour profile presents largely bitter grainy malt, medium bodied, quite flavoursome. Decent welsh bitter, though not as bitter as can get.

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small tan head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just some vague maltiness. In the mouth the texture is thin and light with some sharpness. Flavour is dark fruits, and blackcurrant with some traces of cough mixture. Finish is slightly dry and medicinal. This is OK – but it’s a bit basic.
