Description
Townes Brewery was started by Alan Wood in 1994 at an old ice cream factory and moved to its present site, the Speedwell Inn at Staveley, in 1997. The brewery and pub were taken over by Lawrie and Nicoleta Evans on Alan's retirement in 2013. They continue to use Alan's recipes at the five-barrel brewery. Townes beers are rarely found outside the pub, other than occasional swaps and at beer festivals.

On cask, Speedwell Inn (Brewery Tap) Staveley - Standard looking amber to red body, thin white head. Nose is caramel, a bit of malt, and a bit of diacetyl. Taste is smooth, nothing special, little crisp on the finish.
