Cask @ Bombay Brew, Rochdale. Clear golden with a sticky-sweet texture and taste, but slips down the palate with great ease. Its mango is the more dominant of its flavours in taste, and in terms of its aroma too.

Bag in a box at the Crown & Trumpet, Broadway. What was I thinking? Well, I was thinking that I wanted something sharp... maybe a cider. Then I saw blackcurrant on the pump clip and thought "ooh, yes, blackcurrants are sharp", completely forgetting about Ribena. Which is, of course, what it tasted of. It’s a watery pink colour, like weak Ribena. It’s exceptionally sweet, maybe even more so than Ribena. It tastes of Ribena throughout. There’s a hint of sweet baked apple and a little rough cider in the background, but it’s nowhere near enough to balance the sweetness. Definitely alcopop territory, although even alcopops aren’t usually this sweet. Even my wife (who was on the Pimms) found this too sweet. You can feel it dissolving your teeth. Not for me.

Cask, somewhere or other, Liverpool. Pissy looks. Sweet apricot flavour. Light and fruity. Little in the way of carbonation. Could have been awful but turned out drinkable. A novel and pretty well executed offering.
