Description
CRATE was established in 2012 when the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast. CRATE thrives on creativity, free thinking, and working hard. The experimental brewhouse is where all the Limited Edition beers are created.

Latest news November 2020:
The situation is complex, but it seems that there were two separate companies, one for brewing and one for the bar business. Both hit financial trouble, and the brewing company went into administration. Truman's, needing a new site due to delays with their new brewery, are currently brewing in Crate's old brewing space. But the website is still online and Crate beers are still available...

Clear dark brown with a medium sized beige head, good lacing. Mild aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Flavors of roasted malts and bitters

Clear golden with a small white head, no lacing. Aroma and flavors are fruity, oranges and bitters

Cask at the brewery. A bit unclear rusty dark orange color, small beige head. Smell and taste malts, a hint of caramel, lightly bitter. Hmm not bad but a bit boring. Average body and carbonation.

Sampled at the brewery. Clear golden color, medium sized lightly creamy off-white head. Smell and taste malts, clean, quite hoppy for a lager, nice bitterness while still being a lager. Decent body and carbonation. Like it, good job.

Keg at the brewery. Clear golden color, medium sized off-white head that leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, hops, quite fruity, lightly floral, only lightly bitter. Average body, average carbonation.

Cask at the brewery. Opaque pitch black color, small to medium sized dense, lightly creamy beige head. Smell and taste malts, dark chocolate a little, dark malts, nicely some hoppyness in there as well. Decent body and carbonation.

Cask at the brewery. Hazy yellow to orange-golden color, small white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, tropical fruits, peach, floral, blossom, pineapple. Lightly bitter, decent body and carbonation. Nice one.

Keg at the brewery during RBESG ’14, day 3, 09/08/14. Golden amber with a good sized off white head, carbonation well evident. Nose is pale maltings, straw, light citric vibes, mellow fruit, hint of bread. Taste comprises grain, straw, pale malt, light caramel. Medium bodied, fine to spritzy carbonation. Solid lager.
