Description
CRATE was established in 2012 when the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast. CRATE thrives on creativity, free thinking, and working hard. The experimental brewhouse is where all the Limited Edition beers are created.
Latest news November 2020:
The situation is complex, but it seems that there were two separate companies, one for brewing and one for the bar business. Both hit financial trouble, and the brewing company went into administration. Truman's, needing a new site due to delays with their new brewery, are currently brewing in Crate's old brewing space. But the website is still online and Crate beers are still available...

Bottle from Sourced Market, St Pancras. It pours clear orangy-amber with a small white head. The nose is bready, soft orange, light toast, wood, . The taste is juicy fruit, zesty orange, grapefruit, pine, bread, grain, light spice and caramel with a dry, lightly bitter finish. Strong malty backbone to it. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not exactly bursting with flavour, but well balanced and pretty drinkable.

Bottle from Sourced Market St Pancras, golden clear with thin white head. Itโs an ok golden bitter. Something a little funny in the flavour, not quite rubber, but erring on that side. Moderate hop moderate bitterness, not much of a finish, bit unexciting.

Bottle from Sourced Market St Pancras. Itโs been ages since I had a beer that called itself a best bitter, itโs all fancy smancy stuff in that there London now. Deep mahogany colour clear with thin beige head. Some caramel and toast on aroma. Yep a solid bitter. Does what it says on the tin. Not showy but the toast and the fruit are decent. Even a bit of walnut on the finish. Yes tasty, grew on me.
