On tap at Shelter in Tofino, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out light biscuity malt and some grass. Flavour is tame, with grassy hops, biscuity malt, and crisp crackery malt. Decently made - crisp and drinkable, but nothing special.

Bottle - Cabbage and herbal notes. Clear gold with a small white head. Light minty sour notes and a touch of herbal notes. Not great, and surprisingly not sour either. A fail.

Cloudy amber color with some orange hue. Some citrus peel in the aroma, but also earthy. Good body, the malt base has some caramel character, moderately sweet; the bitterness is strong, the hop is fairly resiny, it doesn’t get classy with the earthy grapefruit bitterness.
Harsh.

A touch of haze, quite dull, vaguely tan coloured. Thin, weak head. Overall, unattractive to the eye. On the nose, an overly yeasty, yoghurty kettle sour...kind of what you don’t want in the style. The hops aren’t especially evident, which is a shame because I really like El Dorado. Similar palate, wherein the essential hop character is lacking, but all the overt wonkiness of a sloppily-executed kettle sour is still there. Really a poor effort that, while sounding good on paper, lacks technical quality.

Dark color, almost black. Smells like coffee and chocolate from the office machine, light liquorice. Good body, sweet, some dark caramel, light liquorice, chocolate, just a hint of root beer, maybe whiskey.
Not bad.

This needs a nice rant first: First, why brew a root beer stout? This is just gimmicky nonsense. Second, why would you barrel age it? Third, if you could obtain Woodinville Whiskey barrels, why would you waste them by filling them with a root beer stout? Fourth, if you did make this poor decision, why would you only barrel age it for two months? What a bunch of terrible ideas here.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out lots of sarsaparilla, licorice, light bourbon and a touch of roast. Flavour is very thick, with lots of cocoa, licorice, and a touch of bourbon. Very thick, sludgy palate. It's not offensive, but I don't understand the concept.

Dark brown. Thin head. Whacky root beer character...but also this odd barrel note. Both elements are here but they don’t come together well. Husky, a bit messy, with some dark sugars that bring a bit of bitterness. It’s not coming together but I don’t hate it.

650ml bottle at Brian’s office. Pours a clear golden with a weak tan hear. Aroma is candied oranges. Taste is malty, bready, hoppy bitter with veggie notes. Still too bitter.

Golden amber. On the nose, just sort of plasticy and maybe some rice syrup. On the palate, just big, sticky, no coherent character but a lot of malt all over the place, with alcohol in the finish, and it’s just sort of messy.
