Nice little outfit not far from the train station and North Laine. It manages to feel modern and rustic inside with wood paneling and a dark green/brown motif. Small but there is seating outside and upstairs. Beer is mostly keg although they have a couple of cask. Two beers from BBNo which I hadn't seen since the rescue, plus rhe likes of Brew York and Silver Rocket. The Asian-inspired food is good, expensive but worth it. I thought the beer was good value for Brighton. A great place to spend a little bit of time, or a little bit longer than that. They do good trade here so may get crowded at peak times.

Keg draught at the Pond, Brighton. Light floral and stone fruit notes, some orangey citrus, some crisp vanilla malt. Sweet taste of peach, orange creamsicle with a touch of sourness nearer the finish. Again more malt than I expected. Light-ish body with a good amount of carbonation to complement it. I am no expert on this style but, simple though it may have been, I enjoyed it for what it was.

US pint can bought as part of a delivery from Beers of America, Banbury and drunk at home. Orange-gold and hazy with an initially large but quickly dissipating head. Arma is mango, orange, woodland, vanilla, a little vegetal tint. Sweet juicy taste, some hop bitterness closer to the finish. Full of orange and some apricot. Slightly odd aftertaste, but otherwise pretty spot on. Body’s medium to full, with medium to heavy carbonation. I approve!

This pub will certainly suffer in comparison to the nearby Koelschip Yard but still definitely deserves a place here. One of those 'just a pub' pubs with no exciting draught beers, until you notice the hundreds of beers in their fridges. A lot of easily available German and Belgian (although there are still some surprises here). Lots of UK stuff, usual suspects but a good range (e.g. there were 7 or 8 of Belfast's Bullhouse to choose from). Decent prices. Service is harried and while not unfriendly, wasn't exactly gregarious. Still worth a look in.

Small pub that is about 40% bar. The massive U shaped bar is gorgeous. It's a bit of a party place on Friday night (but then again where isn't in Glasgow!) With low lighting and loud salsa music. The beer is keg only, with offerings available from Red Kite, Tiny Rebel, White Hag, Cantillon and The Kernel. Lots to try in a bottle fridge behind the bar as well. I got my sessionable red ale in a dimpled mug so that's cool. Worth a stop if you are in this part of town which you probably aren't but is a 20-minute walk from the Laurieston.

Wetherspoons are always good value, so will do well on the rating scale here, but this one is worth a look in for sure. Not much to look at. Maybe it's the fact that you can get some good Scottish sessioners here (including three from Dundee's MoR). Service is really friendly as well. Handy for St Enoch underground station.

Handpull cask the the Crystal Palace (JDW), Glasgow. Light to mid-brown, a little translucent with a small loose buff head. Deep chocolate malt aroma, some dark fruit, hedgerow. Sweet taste, fruity and malty with a tinge of bitterness in the finish is. Light body with soft carbonation. Top class stuff, but really simple.
