MCR July Specials Beer#11. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. The cask option of the first of three specials from J.W - a clear golden coloured brew. It's fruity enough without being well stated, with a smoothish texture, tropical and exotic here. Imaginatively named World Cup Special.

MCR July Specials Beer#10. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Hazy yellow-gold in colour. Feeling stronger than is through its body, this gentle tropical fruity brew has some floral qualities in both aroma and taste, although it's in its aftertaste where it's most obvious.

On a street off the side of the town hall, just a few doors along in a mid-terrace property, this is a two-room made open plan micropub focussing on cask ale with five ever changing choices. The door is at the foot of a set of steps, you'll need to use these if your going to be using toilet, otherwise it's a ground floor affair with the the bar against the back wall of the first area. Seats in front and a second room of equal size with plenty more packed in, it's comfortable, friendly and the ale choices are all good ones.

MCR July Specials Beer#9. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Mildly hazed golden coloured brew. Fuller tasting but easy enough as a tropical fruit concern on the sweeter side of the citrus scale. There's hints of pine in taste, moreso in aroma.

MCR July Specials Beer#8. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Crisp and clean are the first two things that come to mind here. It's lager though, quite ordinary taste. Useful in the hot sun and for filling a palate of specials. Clear paler golden coloured. A regular but I needed to fill my tray of three at the Gas Works.

MCR July Specials Beer#7. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. A third brew of this sort from the brewer and it's clear golden coloured this time. It looks better than it tastes though, described as juicy, I think it's a bit watery, with a low hoppy character because of this. Drinkable but a lesser ale

MCR July Specials Beer#6. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. This summer beer is a clear golden coloured session ale. An unremarkable pale ale, but nothing particularly wrong with it if you're in for an easy drinking session ale in the summer, for which this clearly was the brewer's intention.

MCR July Specials Beer#5. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Blonde coloured session ale, which I only asked for a taster of given the brewer had a Rugby themed bitter called 'what a score' and suspicion was they were the same. They are not though, this is a gentle but identifiably golden style. Easy and orderable in measures of something bigger than I partook in, although being a World Cup special it's unlikely to be around for much longer.. .

MCR July Specials Beer#4. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Slightly darker clear golden coloured brew, which is a good cask quality version but still Germanesque tasting of the unfiltered style it's named after. There's definitely lager qualities to be found here, but the smoothness of this ale is a prominent plus feature too. I'll be on the lookout for more Zwickel on an upcoming trip to Germany.

MCR July Specials Beer#3. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Clear mahagony-red, its quite fruity hop negates its dark appearance and makes this dark ale quite drinkable on another super-hot day in Albion. Quite smooth, there's hints of darker malt to be found, but tropical influences are greater.
