Can @ gunnfryd. Almost clear golden body under a big, dense off-white head. Aroma has malt, generic fruit and some pine. Taste is smooth, mild malt, light fruity and decent bitterness. Not to typical a west coast in my book but sure a decent beer.

Can @ gunnfryd. Clear golden body under a white head. Aroma of malt, some fruity hops and butterscotch. Taste has medium sweet malt, moderate bitterness, hint of citric fruit and some butterscotch. Still drinkable but pretty dull.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown/amber body, almost black under a small beige head. Aroma has dark, roasted malt, caramel, dry fruit, chocolate, wood and warming alcohol. Taste is surprisingly smooth and almost boozy without being that. Soft, gentle roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, dry fruit like prunes and raisins, oak, vinous alcohol, some vanilla, balanced bitterness and hint of tobacco. Fine balanced body, not too sweet and sticky. Everlasting aftertaste. This is really a great beer with so many layers of flavours.

Bottle @ home. Almost clear golden body under a fine frothy white head. Aroma has pale malt, some fruitiness, hint of wood and slightly funky. Taste has malt, wood, saison yeast and a spicy touch. Taste is medium sweet, soft malt, generic fruitiness, spicy yeast, distinct wood and balanced bitterness. Balanced body with a nice, smooth aftertaste. I really got a soft spot for these wooden barrel versions of saison/golden ale kind of beers with a mild/soft flavour of pale malt in combination with a vinous wooden touch. This might not be the best version but even as a mid-range version it’s definitive a nice treat for enjoying a nice beer as it is.

Bottle @ home. Pitch black body under a fading beige head. Strong aroma of dark malt, vinous alcohol, coffee and some dark fruit. Taste is smooth dark malt, quite much alcohol, but in a very nice way, rather vinous and complex. Also, dark fruit, some chocolate, coffee, wood and balanced bitterness. Lots of strong flavours but everything seems to come together with a good planned balance. Lovely sipper.

Tap @ the brewery during beer makers dinner. During brewing a batch of Svartskjær something went wrong and they ended up with a 7,2 % ABV beer with a different profile. This was named Feilskjær during the dinner. Will only be available in limited quantum at the taproom later. Dark brown body under a tan head. Strong coffee aroma even as it’s no coffee present in this brew. Dark malt, dry fruit and a faint hint of liquorices. Taste has medium roasted dark malt, medium sweet, dry fruit, a touch of liquorices and coffee and balanced bitterness. A bit undefined in taste but not bad at all.

Backlog November 2009. Goden body with lively carbonation under a nice white head. Aroma of pale malt, herbs and a fruity touch. Taste is sweet, mild pale malt, spicy, fruity and some alcohol. All over balanced and nice.

Backlog November 2009. Goden body with a few floaters under a disappearing white head. Aroma of sweet malt, esters and spicy yeast. Taste is sweet malt, fruity, spicy and bitter with warming alcohol. A bit unusually as a Saison but there is something here making it interesting.

Backlog November 2009. Clear golden body under a big, off-white head. Weak aroma that feels like sweet malt and sugar. Taste is sweet and plain with pale malt, grain, white sugar and alcohol. Medium body and sweet aftertaste.
