Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Straw with a white head; citrus aroma with hints of honey and wet grass; sharp citrus bite, tart and bitter; a quinine bitter finish, let down slightly by a hint of hospital disinfectant.

330ml bottle of Coffee Porter from Waitrose, Kingston. An exceptional looking beer, dark but with a scarlet red translucence, and a thin head the colour of a stirred latte. Rich mocha aromas of strong coffee and dark chocolate; intense chocolate malt flavour, fruity with a coffee edge; and a warming dry coffee finish. Tasty.

500ml bottle bought at Waitrose, Hythe, Kent - about as far as you can get from the brewery while still being in England! Reddish amber with a thin white head; aroma like it says on the bottle - chocolate, malt and nuts; deep and chewy malts give a chocolate flavour with a dry biscuity finish; extremely moreish. An interesting beer, part bitter, part stout in character.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A straw coloured pour with a fast fading white head leaving a scant coating; honeyed aroma; quite sweet in the mouth with a grainy body and more traces of honey; then a pleasant floral bitterness and a smooth finish and more honey - which is strange as the ingredients are only listed as: water, barley, hops and yeast.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A slightly hazy pale straw coloured pour with a loose white head and gentle carbonation; citrus aroma; tangy lemon taste with a sweet grainy body; and some bitter lemon zest to finish. Refreshing and very tasty.
