Grew up in England and developed a taste for English ales. Traveled a lot to Belgium and surrounding countries and grew to appreciate these European styles. Traveled to USA a fair bit, starting in the dark days when it was a beer desert, and then enjoying the flourishing microbrewery scene. Moved in 1994 to Australia which was then a beer desert, so grew to appreciate the excellent Aussie wines and my own homebrew. Now there is a flourishing microbrewery scene in Aus, which is great. I travel a lot to Asia, which was generally grim for beer, although with some interesting pockets of excellence there if you looked hard; but now several countries have good craft beers. I was a RateBeerian for 18 years (Oct 2007 until its demise in 2025), with username Pyobon.

It’s a comfortable pub, and the only one around as far as I know. It seems to have a good whiskey collection. There is one (maybe two) taps. One served an apparently unpasteurised beer from OB. The fridge had 10 or more different beers, mostly very boring ubiquitous stuff. There were two Jeju beers and a couple of American I beers I was not familiar with. The server was friendly and spoke some English. The vibe was laid back and comfortable. They served food but I did not try it. Price was reasonable. Location so close to Ilchulbong and in the town centre is good.

(Can) Pours clear deep brown with modest loose off-white head. Good aroma - toffee, notes of toast. Medium body with bright carbonation. Great taste. There’s a backbone of dark toffee throughout the palate and then there’s quite a dramatic transformation to a great bitter finish. There are some herbal notes and dark berry hints at the start. Very good.

(Can) Pours black with huge tan head. Lovely aroma. Rich toffee malt, booze, dried fruit, coffee. Full bodied, smooth, slightly sticky with great carbonation. Great rich taste. There’s a good backbone of roasty toffee malt. There’s some nice bitterness providing balance. The alcohol provides warmth through much of the palate. There are chocolate, coffee and dried fruit notes. Very enjoyable.

(Can) Pours hazy amber brown with tiny white head. Great aroma of toffee and rich wood and spice notes. Fairly full bodied, smooth, someway syrupy with modest fine carbonation. Great balanced rich taste. There’s toffee malt giving restrained sweetness. There’s some tartness and apple fruitiness balancing this. There’s a nice wood note. Notes of dried fruit. Little bitterness. Hints of booze. Very enjoyable.
