Grew up in England and developed a taste for English ales. Traveled a lot to Belgium and surrounding countries and grew to appreciate these European styles. Traveled to USA a fair bit, starting in the dark days when it was a beer desert, and then enjoying the flourishing microbrewery scene. Moved in 1994 to Australia which was then a beer desert, so grew to appreciate the excellent Aussie wines and my own homebrew. Now there is a flourishing microbrewery scene in Aus, which is great. I travel a lot to Asia, which was generally grim for beer, although with some interesting pockets of excellence there if you looked hard; but now several countries have good craft beers. I was a RateBeerian for 18 years (Oct 2007 until its demise in 2025), with username Pyobon.

Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 5.5 | Texture - 5 | Overall - 5.5

(Can) Pours clear golden amber with good white head. Subtle aroma with notes of toffee and grassy hints. Light body. Carbonation slightly on the fizzy side. Flavours is a little watery but otherwise pleasant. Notes of toffee and hints of orange. Grassy hints too. Very low bitterness. Quite drinkable but not very interesting.

(On tap) Black with small tan head. Aroma of roast grains, vanilla, pear drops. Full bodied, smooth, modest very fine carbonation. Good bitterness of very dark roast malt. Chocolate. Vanilla hints. Some rather odd pear drop notes. Good but something a little out of balance.

(Can) Pours hazy pale gold with small white head. Aroma is citrus with earthy notes. Light body with good bright carbonation. Good taste. Citrus and pithy citrus bitterness dominate. Hints of biscuit malt. Very good.

(Draft) Slightly hazy straw. Small white head. Subtle citrus, biscuit, grassy aroma. Light body with mouth filling soft carbonation. Taste is citrus, grassy hops. Little malt or bitterness. Reasonable, drinkable.

(On tap. 5.0% from Fukuoka Craft Brewing) Slightly hazy gold with good white head. Nice citrus aroma. Medium body with good mouth filling soft carbonation. Citrus start and into mid palate. Gentle biscuit malt joins mid palate. Gentle hopppy bitterness at finish. Pleasant easy drinking

Interesting self serve bar in huge shopping mall. 16 taps. Mostly craft, some mainstream beers, some overseas. Modern, bright and a bit noisy. Staff friendly. Expensive by the ml, but a cheap way to sample many beers.
