Pint can obtained from Half Time early this year. A tulip glass from Buffalo Bayou handles the duties this evening, I open the can and pour. I see a cloudy body of off-yellow in color with a frothy head of totally white foam. The scent is hoppy and somewhat tropical. I have a drink and the taste goes a different direction. Lemons, a touch of cedar, some orange peel, malt, mangoes and a hoppy dankness. A little bitter, likewise with sweet. Curious combinations, a mellow beer. Tolerably all right, I do not think this is one I seek out again.

A 16 oz can found at a shady convenience store In Louisville during our BT holiday early this month. Bagging the can in the 21st century way, no glass involved in this tasting. Green apple not high on my list of potential flavors for a malt liquor, no matter, Iโ€™m still having a taste. Here goes. I think it is similar to a Jolly Rancher green apple candy and pardon me if thereโ€™s maybe 5 other raters that know what Iโ€™m talking about. Sweet, of course, and a small metallic tang that is not attractive. There are worse in the style but not a big number of them.

I spotted a big stovepipe can in the cooler at a liquor store in Odessa. Label on the can indicates 5.5% abv, just saying. Thereโ€™s no glass on this really warm afternoon, Iโ€™m using a koozie on the beer. The smell is lightly grain and even lighter citrus, not a big surprise. The taste follows along respectfully, barley malt, a bit of lemon and water, fortunately I have the beer well cooled off to help out. The sensation is somewhat fuller than most pale lagers, I heartily approve. The plan is drink the can down some and add a slice of lime. Pleasant enough beer on a hot day in July.

This 19.2 oz can was found at the nearest HEB supermarket in their stand-up cooler. The can is sleeved and now I open it. The scent is considerably like that of a margarita. And the taste is also. Lime, a touch of salt, agave and only a hint of the ABV working its way through. Not too sweet and slightly sour. This may be the best margarita-style malt liquor I have tasted.

A new brew to me from Total Wine in Santa Fe. Several beers I have had now from Bow & Arrow, some good, some missing the mark. I think it is time to see what Southwesty does for me. The pint can is open and I lift into my Great Heights snifter. The appearance is a semi-clear pale yellow liquid topped by a small but persistent head of totally white foam. I smell hops and cut grass and a touch of citrus. The drink is similar, lemons, some grapefruit, white bread and a strong bitterness. Unfortunately nothing really carries this beer over the finish line ahead of anything else in the style.
