23 February 2025. Can from J&B Craft Drinks. No canned date.
Hazy dark orange, stable, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe mango, orange juice, peach, papaya, cake, pine resin, grapefruit, hashish, cheese rind, vague diesel. Taste has sweetish unripe peach, mango & mandarin surrounding a bitter core of grapefruit, orange peel, pine and some herbal hashish, supported by a bready & cake-like malt base. Very bitter finish of resinous, piney & bit grassy hops but countered by juicy citrus peel & grapefruit; a hop burn is apparent but remains controlled. Medium body, fluffy texture, soft carbonation. Intense and elegant, but perhaps a tad less complex (and fresh?) than the Focal Banger which we tried right before it. Still, this is evidently a benchmark IPA.

23 February 2025. Can from J&B Craft Drinks. Canned: 5/11/2024.
Hazy ochre, stable, small, foamy, white head. Aroma of ripe tangerine, grapefruit, sweat, onion, hashish, sweaty cheese, old orange juice, biscuit, pine resin. Taste has sweetish tangerine, melon & grape quickly turning towards bitter grapefruit & orange peel in a peanutty, biscuity malt body with hints of dank cheese & onion. Very bitter finish of piney & resinous hops, grapefruity, tonic-like almost, with herbal, green & dank edges. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Impressive stuff, juiciness contained in a raw profile. Well worth its price on the aforementioned webshop.

20 February 2025. At Hal 16 (Dok Brewing). Cheers to the Teamleader crew!
A: hazy black, stable, foamy, beige head.
A: salted caramel, butterscotch, soy sauce, brownie, black olive, bourbon.
T: sweet-salty caramel, dark chocolate, cream, mocha, bit umami.
F: soft peppery hops, caramel, warming bourbon alcohol and a whiff of vanilla.
P: medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation.
Surprisingly, I'm getting less acetaldehyde than expected. Then again it's quite heavy on the caramel, and this ruins the barrel & general profile a bit for me.

18 February 2025. Bottle from Hopduvel. Vintage 2018. Bottled: 10/07/2024.
Clear dark golden to orange, lasting, thin, white head. Aroma of vinegar, dry sherry, horseblanket, wet hay, damp cellar, green apple, sourdough, sweaty cheese, grape must. Taste has sour unripe plum, nectarine pit and white grape in a sourdough- & sour cream-like malt body; complemented by lactic acid, funky hay, vinegar and wet wood notes. Tart, dry, astringent finish with a dash of old grassy hops, impressions of oak, grape skin and stone fruit pit going hand in hand to provide a tannic and sherry-like finish (without noticeable alcohol warmth). Medium body, slick-moussy texture, soft to flat carbonation. Complex and rounded Wild Ale, a far cry from Struise's latest boozy endeavours, but clear testimony to their inherent craft.
