(On tap @ L'Ermitage, Brussels, May 1/18 during the 'Cantillon Bar' @ Quintessence) Pours a nearly clear medium red with a small pale pink head. Notes of fresh red wine grapes and light to medium-bodied red wine, some tart red berries (currant?), lemon yoghurt, soft funk, tannins, a little oak, touch sweet overall. Flavour was quite soft, light red wine, maybe a little cranberry, soft lactic acidity, hay, some tannins, extremely vinous but not super deep. Light to medium bodied, rather soft smooth carbonation. Nose promises some serious grape depth but that hasn't really penetrated all the way into the flavour, which is comparatively light and tart. Good but not really hitting the tier occupied by the best grape lambics Jean makes.

Newly released Cantillon grape lambic made with Cinsault grapes, a variety originating from the Rhône valley. Tasted from tap at Nanobrasserie de l’Ermitage during their overcrowded Quintessence party. Lilac-hued, moussy, lacing head, more or less clear, intense deep fuchsia robe with ruby red glow. Aroma of a lot of red and rosé wine, grape juice even, overripe cherries, amidst sour yoghurt, lemon peel, raw rhubarb, wet wood and damp hay notes. Lovely fruit acidity in the onset, sour grapes and lemon but a softer ripe blue grape or even red cherry touch as well, very fruity and in this case seemingly more from actual fruit than from lambic esters even if those are certainly present; fizzy carb, soapy and supple middle, lots of sour cherry and rhubarb tartness lingering until deep in the finish. Dry and quenching ending, tannic but more so from grape skins and seeds than from wood, with still some notable woodiness and a sweat Brett feature. Classy grape lambic, looks absolutely stunning and tasting crisp, sour and full of fruit vitamins… I’m not sure if this one is already bottled too, might age beautifully in a cellar if that were to be the case.

With the current high residual sweetness it has too much supermarket grape juice character to really shine but given time I’m sure the very round grape character will turn in to something beautiful.
