A strong and solid dark beer, the color does not come from dark malts but from the herbs. Not for the faint hearted. It's name is a reference to our brewmaster's past life as a master brewer for the Unibroue brewery (Quebec, Canada). A beer worth burning for... only for heretics.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt (pilsner, pale ale, caramel), Saaz hops, spices and aromatics (bitter orange peel, star anice, cumin, cardamone, liquorice, chili pepper, unrefined cane sugar, caramel sugar and yeast.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a deep mahogany colour with a thinnish creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, plums, chocolate and some liquorice. Taste has more dark fruits, plums and liquorice with some added notes of aniseed and warming alcohol. Also some brown sugar on a sweet finish. Medium body with fairly low carbonation. Quite boozy but pretty good if a bit on the sweetish side.

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, mahogany colour with ruby glimmer and small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Toasty and caramel malty as well as spicy aroma, hints of aniseed, a touch of cardamom. Taste is slightly dry, toasty malty and spicy, hints of aniseed, some chili, a touch of cardamom. This is a heavy spiced dark beer, but not a heavily spiced dark beer. OK.

330 ml bottle, from Det Bette Ølhus, Ålbæk. ABV is 9.6%. IBU 18. Very dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts and various spices (which are actual ingredients in the beer), also dark sugars and orange peel. Medium sweet, malty and spicy flavour, star anise comes through, hardly any noticeable hops. Despite the spiciness there is no \"burn\", and the finish is rather dull.
