Kettle Soured Ale with a Dry Hop Burst
The name “Larry’s Latest” is a nod to the spirit of innovation and experimentation that Larry started in 1985 and continues within the brewery to this day. Our latest sour recipe has a refreshingly bright, citrusy tartness combined with pungent tropical aromas.

Rather tart sour ale--couldn't be blamed for thinking this pint was some sort of grapefruit adjunct ale--with a puckering blast of citrus on top of a mild cracker malt base and a firm bitter finish. Not a whole lot of nuance here, with the sourness coming out swinging and then quickly transitioning to a indecipherable dry hop back end, yet hints of yeast and straw pop up in the fade, offering at least a smidgen of depth. Still, a fairly straightforward example of the style. Pours straw gold with a thick white head and modest lacing. Bready nose is a nice touch. Super-boisterous carbonation helps cover up the general lack of complexity, but I'm finding very little reason to open another bottle.

In a bottle finally a new beer from Bell I can rate. It 'tis a little sour. Pours a little hazy but its pretty much just another pale looking beer. Has a good amount of tartness, without any fru- fru- fruit things going on. Some medicinal aspects in there as well but over all its a friendly tart beer that comes across as a little more than yer typical Berliner wiesse. Good overall beer experience. Not bad, and pleasingly above average but the bitter thing keeps raising its head in the finish. Yes, its as if there is too much hops in here for a sour, wild or tart beer.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/22/2018. Pours lightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, green apple, citrus peel/zest, wheat, white bread, light lacto funk, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, green apple, citrus peel/zest, wheat, white bread, light lacto funk, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness and mild floral/grassy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, green apple, citrus peel/zest, wheat, white bread, light lacto funk, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and slightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice dry hopped kettle sour. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly acidic/drying finish. Pretty tame for a kettle sour, but adequately tart. Very approachable with nice citrus/tropical hop complexity, balanced Lacto and pale/wheat malts. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.
