3 week old can A: Clear dark brown motor oil color with a 2 tan frothy head, very good retention and patchy lace. S: Smooth coffee aroma with caramel, molasses and milk chocolate. T: Bitter, roasty coffee and toasted grains with a hint of chocolate cake sweetness and prune toward the end. M: Fairly light and quite crisply carbonated. Sort of dances on the tongue and begs the next sip. O: Simple and straightforward, this does the coffee thing quite well.

Bottle at Bruce’s Birthday batch @Craft Islington. Thanks to C-Dogg! It pours deep ruby-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, musty, coffee, dark chocolate and barnyard. The taste is coffee, toasty, earth, mild acidity, chocolate and light tang with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Fairly one-dimensional. OK, but I was hoping for more depth.

Bottle I brought along to Bruce’s Birthday Bash @ CBC N1, big thanks initially to Toby Kernel for passing this ’spare’ to me at the brewery, 07/02/14. Mid black with a good sized tan head. Nose is light roast, earthy, touch of cocoa powder, dark fruit pangs. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, cocoa powder, faint coffee, dark fruit lick. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Ok drinkable offering but lacks any depth for the ABV, also not much coming off in the way of coffee, perhaps a little old ?

Bottle thanks to GRG1313. Pours with not quite a black body with a somewhat lasting tan head. Aromas are roasty, bready, nutty, coffee and chalky. Flavors are of fudge, smooth roast, cereal grain, nutty, grainy, coffee, molasses, raisins. Light bubbles, doesn’t feel very substantial in alcohol or body despite the ABV.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt and coffee, as well as some dark chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and some coffee, leading to a dry very roasted coffee finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
