Originally brewed under the name ‘Eric’s Red – Cream Ale’. This beer was first named not for its colour but after the famous Viking ‘Eric The Red’ and was crafted to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Viking’s return to L’anse Aux Meadows in 1998. It was first brewed with the intention of being a seasonal beer and featured a Viking themed bottle but the name and packaging was recently changed to avoid any confusion about this beer being an amber ale when it is in reality a wonderful example of a refreshingly smooth cream ale that was the Silver Medal Winner at the 2001 World Beer Championships in Chicago, IL.

Reddish copper in colour with a light caramel toffee malt sweetness and gentle hop character, Eric’s Cream Ale is an excellent choice for those looking for a beer with a little more character while still being extremely approachable.

Beer at the hotel bar Port Au Choix NL Mostly clear deep yellow color with a frothy white head that persists. Bready lightly fruity maltiness with bits of floral and earthy hops to counter. Not too bad.

Bottle at The Crow's Nest. Clear golden color white edge head. Aroma of light cereal. Taste is light light lager. Fortunately Joy's stories about the role of the pub during the Second World War, and the massive collection of memorabilia it houses, took my mind off this beer.

This cream ale poured a crystal clea, light yellow colour with a nice, foamy/rocky, bright white head. To the nose there are scents of vinegar, corn, light weiner meat and dough. First swig was smooth and watery. Light hopp flavour with a splash of corn. Finish is thin and tastless. Not a bad ale but definately corporate "White Bread" beer.
