What do a three-legged dog, a made-up beer style, and a giant oak cask have to do with each other? One great beer. Four Legs Good, our Blond Quad, belies its sweet nature with a dry, full finish and sneaky strength. Fermented first in puncheons with extensive aging in oak foudres, Four Legs Good doesn’t care what you call it as long as she is along for the ride. Four Legs Good, three legs better. Sante!

Poured from a bottle at home. Aroma is full of bright fruit notes with lots of apricots and peaches. Lighter mango, pineapple and pear. Hints of citrus. Some light malt notes of honey and light caramel with a hint of a graininess. Some light oak and white wine notes with medium light grape character. Pours a hazy, slightly pale golden orange with a small, thick white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to a thin film that lingers. Moderate lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is slightly acidic with quite a bit of fruit and wine barrel character. Medium light oak and tannins with some medium grape notes. Lots of tropical fruit and stone fruit with lighter pear and citrus. Medium low bitterness. Some light alcohol notes in the finish. Light honey and caramel. Finish lingers with a hint of acidity, some oak and grapes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Carbonation is somewhat creamy and silky. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is a very nice beer with a ton of fruit character; so much fruit that it’s hard to believe there isn’t actually fruit in it. Nice, light, sweet malt notes. Quite a bit of wine and oak character. Alcohol is well hidden. Doesn’t seem like a blonde quad whatever that is, but it’s quite nice and sticking to styles is for the BJCP and Ciceronies.

750ml bottle thanks to Steve. Pours out a hazy golden topped with a small head. Nose is sweet maple syrup barnyard horse blanket and some citrus notes. Taste is more of the tartness funk horse blanket spice and a nice barrel end.

Tap. Pours hazy amber orange, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma is funky, basement, horse blanket, brandy, oak, Belgian yeast. Flavor is light sweet, very light bitter, medium funk, reminiscent of Cantillon, oak tannins without acidity, just a touch tart, some stone fruit. Medium body. Solid effort.
