Dominus Double is a refreshing abbey beer with a long-lasting flavour, leaving a well-balanced bitter aftertaste with a spicy touch. Roasted and quite hoppy, the aromas develop elegantly with hints of old, slightly dry wood. It has a crystalline colour, dark red with caramel highlights. The head is thick and creamy.

Dominus Double is ideal for accompanying smoked game or moist dark chocolate desserts.

33 cl. bottle @ the bungalow in Vencimont, bought @ Delhaize, Beauraing. Dark brown with a beige head. Malt, caramel and some coffee in the aroma. Sweet taste, low carbonation and a quite thin body. Not that good.

Pours a ruby brown color, topped with a rather small tan head that quickly disappears. Aroma has some mild dry fruits in there and it’s also quite bready/yeasty - though not too excessively. Taste is sweet, again with yeasty notes. Slight soury feel in the finish. Not a big fan og dubbels, but this one was passable.

Foam: pale brown cream. Colour: hazy red to brown. Aroma: roasted malt/nutty, prune, with some chocolate notes. Taste: malty, spicy, herbal, surprisingly tones of port wine, dry prune, dark fruits, candy syrupy, yeast, so quite good for this style, but something is missing….

I remember tasting this back in the nineties, and apparently it is still around today. Thinnish but moussy, pale beige, lacing head over a hazy dark burgundy beer with little fizz. Aroma of apricot slices in syrup, molasses, caramel candy, candi syrup, candied dates, biscuit, hint of dried orange peel, coriander seed, ginger, marzipan, nutmeg, lots of plastic-or glue-like solvents and lots of iron. Sweetish, very caramelly onset, dried fruits but not too much happening here; middle phase has a certain malty nuttiness but otherwise remains quite caramelly with minerally carbo, a bit metallic; finish is still the same caramelly sweetishness (probably industrial caramel rather than cara malts) with a slight sourishness, rather thin body and low hops profile, some leafy hops in the background but otherwise no hops balance to speak of, as well as a touch of badly hidden alcohol reminiscent of some cheap bourbon. Very one-sided, metallic, industrial, a bit chemical, artificial and boring. A disgrace to the ’dubbel’ style, if you ask me - much like that horrible Leffe Brune which is incomprehensibly overrated here, just like this one (which at least does show some actual dark malts being used - I am far from sure this is the case in Leffe Brune!). Think Westmalle or Chimay, guys!

Piana w konsystencji kremowa, podobna do musu kawowego, ciemno beżowa, niezbyt trwała, pozostawia kożuch.

33 cl bottle. Brown color, hazed, beige head. Spicy nose. Aroma is pear, red apple, fruity, a bit grainy, flourish yeast, undefined hops. Taste is sweetish. Dusty dry finish. Not exciting dubbel, koningshoeven did much better.

12oz goblet at Never Stop in San Sebastian. Pours a hazy amber with some thin white head. Nose has raisins, candy sugar, some clove, some malt, a little licorice. Flavor has more candy and more spice, some brown malt, some chestnut honey, a little bit of candlewax, toffee. Full bodied, sticky finish.
