This burly West Coast IPA is the result of long hours in the hop shop. The Apprentice is back– overhauled and rebuilt with a nod to the past and an eye on the road ahead. Chrome hubs
and candy paint might turn heads, but this beast is built for speed, barreling through the finish line with potent hop power.

Clear pale golden color. Frothy white head with tropical fruity nose. A bit more malty character than other beers, a bit of buscuit and I wonder about crystal malts (?), meaning a bit of sharpness than other beers. Lots of tropical fruit and less bitter than the pupil. Very nice.

Keg at Toronado, SD, 12/11/14. Clear golden blonde with a moderate off white covering. Nose is skunked hops, pine, bitter citric peel, orange pith, tangy grapefruit. Taste comprises a nice level of skunkage, pine needles, light floral notes, grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with hop bitterness well represented. Kin Solid IPA !

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a clear pale gold body that supports a near white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The aroma is a juicy mix of mango, cantaloupe and lime as well as having a thin onion spicy hop edge to it. This smells Nelson-ish as it gets slightly white wine like at the end of the draw. The taste is thick rich Nelson goodness supported by sweet clean thin maltiness where notes of tangelo, mango and cantaloupe fruitiness bubbling up along with just a sliver of sweet white wine grape sensation to midway. Toward the finish it picks up resiny almost onion like earthy hoppy notes that inject short spikes of bitterness into the involved juiciness that’s going on here. This is every bit Alpine Nelson that I have ever had. Is it better . . .

Dark gold. Sticky head. Cream soda and orange. Lots of orange actually like tangerine and doughy malts. Thin and oily. Minor mineral water quality

Draft at City Beer, San Fran. Clear gold with lasting head. Nose is light herbal and mild pine. The flavor is mostly pine throughout the sip. Noyes of citrus and earthy green leaf hops. The only negative is the thin watery body and moithfeel. Serviable and clean.

Are we getting a little away from ourselves here? An 8.4% IPA, not an IIPA? Ok, well rating this as an IPA, the aroma was traditional San Diego hop bomb, citrus and spruce with some grapefruit. The mouthfeel is acerbic and a detergent like. Nice finish however.

Tap, hazy golden butterscotch, small white head, good lacing. Aroma is light pine, vegetal, urine, pot, unusual. Flavor same, light plus sweet, light bitter. Medium body, oily mouthfeel.
