Brown Ale with Ginger, Lemon & Unrefined Sugar Cane.

This beer is the creation of Allan in our brew team, who is originally from Costa Rica. Agua de Sapo is a traditional soft drink which originated in the Limón province on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. This beer takes inspiration from all the ingredients of the sweet, flavoursome and refreshing beverage - lemon, ginger and unrefined sugar cane. Pura vida!

Keg at Craft Clerkenwell. Not the most beautiful of beers, murky brown. Aroma is citrusy, quite hoppy it would seem. Taste is different though. Can still get the hops but they are balanced by the sugar. Ginger peeks through at the end which is otherwise mainly caramel malty. Weird one, but quite pleasant!

Bottle. Brown pour. Aroma of nuts, candy sugar, lime and spices. Taste has lime, nuts, malt, spice, ginger, more subtle sugar and caramel. Not bad actually.

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy brown with medium head whitish foam, fine. Aroma is malty and fruity. Gilbert almost not felt. Body is relatively dense with good carbonation. Taste is fairly sweet, with decent bitterness. Ginger gives a more original taste, but does not overwork. Finish is average.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown, very thin dissipating off-white head. Aroma of lemon juice, lime, ginger, earth. Taste presents an earthy ginger vibe, with a herbal linger and very a faint background lemon sweetness. I love a good sharp spicy ginger beer, but find myself wanting to like this, but not quite getting there. The ginger is there, but not fiery enough, malt presence seems to make it clear this is a beer first and foremost, light bitter spice is good but lemon juice could be more prominent. Good concept, but something doesn’t feel right.

Acually tastes like frog water. Weird unblending elements of ginger and lemon. Certainly not a brown in the most creative sense. Tap at Partisan.
