Can shared at the inaugural Matteo tasting, 31/10/2016. A chestnut brown coloured pour with a lasting frothy light tan head. Aroma is woody toasted brown bread, charred wood, smoke. Palate is semi sweet, slightly thin, moderate carbonation, chalky. Flavour is composed of dry toasted woody grains, red berry, chalky. Pine. Slightly tangy apple lingers. Lingering charred malts, and tangy apple. Not bad.

Can. M&S on Fargate. Clear, deep chestnut. Blotchy, dense in places, beige head. Nose has earthy roast malts. Some coffee grinds. Cigarette ash. Hint of fruit. Taste is soft, chocolatey sweet. Hint of hop bitterness. Roast malt bitterness. Light body. Pretty smooth. Light bitter finish. Not at all bad, although BIPA is stretching it a bit.

Can on 68010 clearance night, 28/10/16. Dark mahogany brown with a decent khaki cap. Nose is light roast, toffee, charr, brown sugar, light candied fruits. Taste comprises red berry, brown bread, toasted brown sugar, flicker of pine, candied orange peel. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, drying close. Ok for a train beer, just about comes in as a CDA but will stick with the pale Arbor offerings from the M and S fridge!

Can from M and S. Appearance - opaque dark brown to black. A nice fawn head. Nose - chocolate and a touch of lime shred. Earthy smoky. Taste - more chocolate and a touch of citrus but it’s elusive. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long balanced finish. Overall - it sits more in stout or at least a hopped stout than Black IPA for me.
