Like a biker ballerina, this beer looks tough as nails but is light on its feet with all the right moves. Surprisingly smooth to sip, its subtle chocolate and espresso notes finish with a pop of cherry and shimmy of molasses-all from rice, barley and hops. Proof you can wear black and still be the life of the party.

Can. Nutty, roasty nose with dark chocolate, light fruit, citrus. Woody roasted flavor, dark chocolate and caramel, touch of licorice, citrus. Solid.

I thought I’d already rated this… picked up at the brewery last August when visiting Currumbin.

Great roasty dark lager with chocolate bun malt notes. I felt it was a dry light easy drinking well-balanced schwarzbier.

What's with all these Japanese-influenced black lagers in Australia all of a sudden? Has there been an evening class? Can. Almost black, light tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma of coffee, powdery roast, bread. Quite sweet with dark roasted coffee to balance. Modest bitterness. OK, perhaps a little meek.
