Crisp hazy copper coloured body with a thinish tan head and a light glow. Aroma of piney, bitter, nutty hops with some herbal smells and a lot of malt, caramel and alcohol in the mix. Medium-bodied; Very carbonated mouthful; Sharp, biting herbal hops up front with an effervescent medicinal flavour, some nuts and a touch of cardboard bitterness. Aftertaste shows some hops, but mostly funky tastes and too much nuts/malt. Overall, a decent IPA, but definitely not enough of the hops and too much malt. The can helps though! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Durham, North Carolina on 31-August-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 13-April-2010.

Draft sample at the brewpub. Pours an amber color with a large creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet citrus and floral hops with light toffee. Bitter hoppy taste with notes of resin and citrus along with green apple and faint malts. Thin-medium bodied.

Courtesy of Gillard. The can pours clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is vegetable notes of dry potato skin, dry broccoli spires and carrots fresh from the ground. Hmm. I also get notes of spicy earthy hops and a nutty maltiness. The taste is earthy with streaks of bitter pine and broccoli notes. I guess this is what IPA is like hopped up on earthy varieties. I may need some time to adjust get used to this take on the style.

Can collector edition (Ram Head) courtesy of Brentfeesh: Poured a medium orangey color ale with a medium head with average retention. Aroma is hoppy thought not as much expected with a nice malt base. Taste is a mix between some semi-sweet malt with some slightly bitter finish. Body is slightly above average. Nice average IPA but lacking a bit of bitterness to make this truly interesting.

I found this one at the Knoxville Brewer’s Jam 10/04. Beautiful looking beer. Deep clear copper color, stiff, off-white head that lasts like it was made of merengue. Floral, citrusy hop aroma. The flavor starts with a burst of sweet maltyness that quickly fades to a smooth long lasting slightly bitter dryness that really is a pleasure to experience. Very nice IPA.
