Op 20 september 1494 verzochten ‘Hendrick Pietersz ‘Oudt-Heyn en syn wyf’ aan de schepenen van de banne Westzaanen verlof om, op wat nu de Lagedijk is, een woning te bouwen. Deze ‘bouwaanvraag’ is dus de stichtingsdatum van Zaandijk. Maar ook van de term ‘oud wijf’? Een dijk van een wijf!

Bottle sampled at Gouda Winterbier Festival ’17. Hazy orange brown with a cream head. Aroma of veggies, floral notes, caramel and malt. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at Winterbierfestival Gouda. Almost clear dark golden with cream colored head. Lots of sweet malts, apricot, grain husks, toffee, bitter grass and herbs. Very sweet with quite some alcoholic bitterness. Over medium bodied. Meh.

Slightly hazy medium amber colour, small frothy off-white head, dminishing mosly, fair lacing. Aroma toasted malts, grain, candy sugar, caramel. Taste medium sweet and slightly bitter, toasted malts, burnt caramel, spicy notes, cardboard. Sweetbitter aftertaste, lingering burnt caramel, bit warming alcohol,medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Quite one-dimensional, so so.

33cl Bottle from the brewery. Hazy golden amber orange colour, white head. Aroma of sweet malts, candy, alcohol, apricot. Flavour is sweet, candy, alcohol, light fruity. Medium bodied. Very simple interpretation of a Barley Wine imho. Expected a lot more.
