This one-off's subtle smokiness is what makes it so cool! That's what happens when you ferment European hops on chips of beech wood. Hey Madrileños, we had a frickin' blast!! Next time ate your place!

From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2017. Aroma is smoked malt, caramel, and beechwood. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Nice and refined Smoked Bock, a fine example of the style.

Bottle at Kantien, a collab of Uiltje with La Quince apparently; smoked Bock beer, I assume with malt smoked over a beechwood fire? Regularly shaped, thick and very densely creamy, 'membrane'-lacing, stable, off-white head, hazy dark chestnut brown colour with warm bronze hue. Aroma is indeed mostly centered around the smokiness, smoked bacon of sausages hits the nose, followed by impressions of hazelnuts, dried peach, cloves, nutmeg, cold tea, green peppercorns, parsley. Dried fruits in the onset, peach, vague fig, only restrainedly sweetish with a sourish edge; medium carbo, finely tingling, smooth and bit resiny mouthfeel with thin metallic aspects to it. Nutty malt body, bit bready, with a lot of smoked meat-like smokiness as expected, matching well with a herbal hop bitterness in the tail; the herbal aspect as well as that metallic side effect linger a bit after swallowing. Interesting, but to be honest, I did expect more from anything involving Uiltje...

Süßlich rauchiger Beginn. Trocken getreidig, weich werdend. Die Malzigkeit ist angenehm, später eher torfig als Rauch. Süffig, kurzer wässriger Nachhall. 8/9/8/8//8
