We finally met our doppelganger in Madrid. Every bit our brewing wild child equal, with an owl mascot just lkike our own, we simply had to meet up.. A collaboration with La Quince was a no-brainer, but we agreed it had to be unorthodox and weird. You know, smart, like our owls. This beech smoked-bock is our big idea. A medium-bodied bock with hints of vanilla and caramel.
This one-off's subtle smokiness is what makes it so cool! That's what happens when you ferment European hops on chips of beech wood. Hey Madrileños, we had a frickin' blast!! Next time ate your place!

Bottle at home. Hazy brown with bubbly white head. Sweet dark caramel malts, wood, smoke, cola, smoked almond, pine resin, toffee. Moderate sweet and bitter. Over medium body, slick malty with a nice subtle sharp carbonation. Nice sessionable smoked beer. Like it.

Tap at NBFD. Slight hazy deep copper with small beige head. Lots of smoke and bacon, sweet dried fruits, red apple, light toffee. Smoke and bacon are very overpowering. Over medium sweet and under medium bitter. Medium bodied.

Very good & dense cream-ochre head over opaque mahogany beer. Herbs, caramel, fairly sweet nose, but aromatic. Sweet eggbread, raisins. Smoked only by suggestion. Bitterish-leafy, with a caramel background. Herbal character, mildly smoked. Quite slick, at least medium bodied. Smokiness might come on a bit more strongly. Good beer nonetheless.

0.33 l bottle from ’drankgigant.nl’, best before November 2017. Clear, dark brownish red with a medium large, foamy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky aroma of caramel, smoked ham and campfire. Moderately sweet, quite smoky and slightly roasty taste of caramel, chocolate, smoked ham, nuts and some licorice, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, smoky, rather roasty, slightly earthy finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty with nice and intense smoke notes but a bit too much roast for my liking.
