Once a rare “white whale” of NZ hops, it’s here to stay, and we couldn’t resist exploring its many sides. For v19, we’ve brewed three single hop Double IPAs using different Riwaka variants, Eggers Special, Freestyle T90, and HopKeif – before blending them into one ultimate expression.
The result? Three unique beers: two individual showcases and one grand blend, each revealing a different layer of what makes Riwaka so captivating. Complex, vibrant, and full of character – v19 is an experiment in hop exploration, and a must-try for anyone who loves big, expressive beers.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Milky golden body with a white head that holds well. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of pastel de nata, fresh apricot and orange cream. Flavour of melon, lime and brioche with a hint of hop spice. Medium to full body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is heavily hopped and delicious. It’s easy to forget how consistently excellent Cloudwater’s beers are.

440ml can. Murky yellow gold with a white head. Aroma of guava, papaya, mango, light savoury. Taste of sweet juicy tropical fruits, guava, mango, papaya, stone fruits, citrus, some savoury notes, hint of Riwaka smoke, light-moderate bitterness. Full bodied, smooth. Cracking addition to what is probably the best DIPA series in the world, still.

Can from The Fuss Club. Nose is passionfruit, peach, mango, tangerine, white grape. Taste is mango, passionfruit, papaya, peach, pineapple, more white grape. Sweet fruit burst on the palate, just a smidgen of bitterness. Quite herbal. Very nice.

Panda thanks to Cloin. A mild to medium haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Light palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, a light creamy sweetness. Hop spice bites from the get go. A mild savoury hop runs underneath. Juicy hop fruits, hard to pull apart, just a nice generic fruitiness. Light hop spicy finish. Very drinkable.
