Pounder from Appalachian. Pint glass @home. Purty, clear, orange amber pour. Billowy off-white, dense head. Starchy white bread, black pepper, very slight clove, creme nose. Rich crust, rye, a bit of char, touch of clove, a touch sweet, leafy bitterness, good carb. Solid to good quaffer.

2 week old pint can A: Attractive clear pale amber with a tall head of beige froth. Crackling head actually held up well. S: Toast, nuts, leaves, spices and fall vegetables. T: Sweet and toasty then dry piney hops sort of steal the show. M: A little sticky. Light and lightly carbonated. O: I like a marzen with some hop presence for balance and this has it. Very good.

On draught at Captain Jack's Tavern at CLT. Clear orange color with a medium white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Sparse strings of lace. Aroma of malt, fruit and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, mild hops and fruit. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Sample in a flight at the OMB biergarten. Dark copper color, with a thin, off-white head. Nose is orange peel, caramel, gin, and a little rye. Sweet and malty, with a significant bitterness that is uncharacteristic for the style. Light to medium body, chalky, and a little astringent. This is a fair attempt at an Maerzen, but is overhopped.

Location: Draft at CLT, 11/25/14
Aroma: The nose is light caramel and bready malts, some grainy notes, and mild hops
Appearance: This one appears amber in color, some golden notes, with an off-white head on top
Flavor: The taste is mid-sweet, not overly sweet, bread/grains with a light balancing hop bitter
Palate: The body is light-medium, fairly easy drinking, with a mid-plus carbonation
Overall Impression: I had a few of these on draft over the "season," with pretty much all of those being in the airport. It always left me the same impression, which is that it is not bad for OMB, and it is probably better than their flagship copper that you find everywhere, but it isn’t anything exciting. (Note: I have the copper rated as a 3.3, but that is from 2012, and I haven’t felt the same about it when I’ve had it recently. It probably needs a re-rate, and I’d probably have it more in the high 2s to 3 range if I rated it today.)
