Blood orange for the bloodiest film of 2017. For the premiere of Martin Koolhoven’s Brimstone we created a complex red ale. Citra hops resemble the glass of lemonade that is a metaphor for innocence in the film. Australian hops are added as a salute to star of the film Guy Pearce.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Amber color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops. Taste malts, hops, slightly a floral hint, moderately bitter. Decent body and carbonation. Can’t say I get the bloodorange. Although, maybe in the finish there’s a light bloodorange flavor. Hmm not bad overall.

0.33 l bottle from ’Speciaalbierpakket.nl’, best before January 2019. Clear, dark reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, very fruity and slightly resiny aroma of lots of blood orange, grapefruit, some red fruits and pine. Slightly bitter, quite fruity and a bit resiny taste of lots of blood orange, grapefruit, some pine and a touch of red fruits, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, slightly resiny finish. Medium body, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Quite nice, still not a big fan of those blood orange or grapefruit beers.

Bottle shared by markoijelena at RBBWG 2017. Thick and creamy, snow white, lightly lacing head, hazy orangey blonde robe. Aroma of orange peel, biscuit, rainwater, dried grapefruit flesh, stale urine somewhere, fresh bell peppers, green tomato, damp grass, warm toast. Clean fruitiness in the mouth, hints of peach and candied pineapple, sourish starfruit-like balance, medium carbo, slick and very slightly soapy mouthfeel. Biscuity, cookie-like malt middle leads to an aromatically hopped finish, bit resinous, citrus peel and dried mango aspects retronasally, juicy malt sweet tail but some peppery hop bitterness is carried along with it. Lacking a bit in ’nuttiness’ for an American style amber ale, but a pleasant enough, contemporary Dutch craft beer altogether.

Thank you markoijelena! 330 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). Amber orange, little head. Nose is basic sweet malt, sugar, sweet orange, candy. Taste is basic sweet candy, sugar, sugar & bread, not really getting blood orange. Med / med body, light touch maltier than usual. Easy drinking mildly sweet malt forward beer, simple but satisfactory.
