Bottle at home, 5th May 19. Pours black and thick. Aroma is liquor, light barrel, wood, cocoa, damp wood, coffee. Taste is smooth, barrel, cocoa, coffee, cognac, quite a powdery, dry finish, cocoa, liquor, booze well covered. BBE 04/11/18, so I wonder if it has changed, still very good.

330ml bottle, on my beer shelf for far too long. Pours hazed black, small tan head. Aroma is malt-led, distant cognac. Taste is smooth, perhaps lacking a good alcohol bite, cognac presence seems to have faded somewhat. Some earthy woody notes, praline, dark malts.. unfortunately do not get the depth of complexity others have had just a month or two ago. Wish I had it fresh.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Chocolately, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, couverture, hints of caramel, BA overtones with whiffs of alcohol; a touch of liquorice and treacle. Taste is sweet, spicy, dark malty, roasty and chocolately, notes of treacle, caramel, dark chocolate, well matching BA notes; full body, oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly sticky palate. Well balanced - perfect sipper.

Appearance is oily black, with a small tan foamy head. Aroma- whisky, rich dark chocolate, fudge, oak, dark rum, tannins, stewed blended dark fruit, roasted malt, espresso coffee, treacle, spicy hints. Taste- very sweet and boozy, chocolate milkshake, whisky fudge, molasses, vanilla traces, ashy roast malt, burnt treacle, burnt toast, sweet stewed dark fruit, rich coffee, sweet liqueur chocolate. Slick and clingy mouthfeel, sweet finish. Undertones of cinnamon and other spices. Clingy treacle. Excellent.

0.33 l bottle from 'Beergium', best before November 2020, cellared for a year. Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of praline, nougat, cognac, vanilla and a touch of dried fruits. Fairly sweet, malty, gently roasty taste of praline, nougat, cognac, vanilla and some dried fruits, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly earthy, moderately herbal-spicy and just a bit boozy finish. Full body, smooth, creamy and almost oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Fairly complex and intense but pleasant at the same time. That's barrel-aging in perfection, the cognac flavours are gorgeous, the base beer is still thick and saturating. Delicious!
