Hits with an alcohol aroma and flavor, followed by a sweetness that I could not quite describe. I know it’s the style, but seemed a little bit too much of the alcohol flavor overpowering it.

Draught at Salty Pig, 3/4/17.
Clear bronze-golden with a small white head atop showing moderate to low retention.
I get decidedly more fruity, heavily estery aromas than any real heavy pepper here. Lots of apple, nectarine and a strong undercurrent of honey from the malt. Maybe a bit more peach and banana than I’d like, as well.
Sweet and malty in the mouth with pear, peach and banana. Lots of clove and light bubble gum with light alcohol warmth, a sidenote of white pepper and strong lemon rind on the finish. A bit underdeveloped in both yeast and malt, with strong breadiness, light caramel and too much sugar, ultimately, as well as cheap banana and peach esters. Carbonation is ample, fairly engaging with alcohol masked well by the malt. It’s not as bad as most Bruery Belgians, but it’s certainly nothing to write home about.
