Draft at AK BW fest 2016. Deep clear caramel color, tan head. Campfire aroma. Taste is burnt meat, smoky brownies. Tasty.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber with a creamy off white to tan. Aroma has this nice soft smoke, doesn’t over power the nose. Taste is a nice balance of sweetness and smoke. I can see why this grabbed gold at GABF, very solid beer.

Three samples at Cafe Amsterdam.
The appearance was a decent looking hazy orange color with a glazed over light brown to it. The head was about a finger’s worth. It quickly dissipated leaving barely any lacing.
The smell had a fairly strong smokiness but not much else.
The taste was mainly smokey and allowed a slight warming sweetness to arise. A light sweet and sticky smokey aftertaste came about.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there and somewhat good for the smoked style.
Overall, yup, this is definitely a smoked beer. Marzen, not enough caramel malts, still worthy of coming back to.

Served in a Schlenkerla-shape glass. Amber, frothy head. Big beech smoked aroma. The palate has a great balance between toasty malts and abundant beech smoke. Dryish finish. Very moreish. At 7.2%, it’s actually quite strong and this can be a bit dangerous, but this is one badass rauchbier.
