Collab with Stillwater Artisanal. A dark rye sour, brewed with Aronia berries and smoked malts.

Taste: Sweet yet bitter aronia berries come through first, followed by an intense sourness. The sourness then gives way to a long lasting smokiness — reminiscent of a birchwood fireplace — with a sizzle of carbonation to finish, before the sticky dryness of aronia berries comes back, staying on the tongue.

On tap @ Beer Week in Budapest, Saturday session. Black coloured with beige head. Nose is tart and moderately "dark" and roasted. The taste follows the aroma, and closes with sour finish. Has light body and average carbo. No trace of the fruits nor the smoke.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is tart dark berries, dark malt, mild touch of chocolate, dark fruits, lactic notes, hint of smoke if you know where to look for it. Flavour is tart and moderate to medium sour. Body is medium. Loads of tart and sour dark berries with a dark malt chocolate backbone, hardly an epiphany but a nice effort. Would have liked some more smoke though.

Draught@Lakeuden Panimojuhlat 2018, Seinäjoki. Reddish black colour, small beige head. Aroma is acidic, wooden, some slight lactic and mild fruity notes. Flavour has some sweet bready malts along with a quite bigtime sour and tartness which leaves for a good while. Quite dry.

Bottle. A- Smoke, blackberry, mild cocoa. A- Black color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Smoke, sour, blackberry, mild chocolate, grape. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- I haven't had many lichtenhainers but I imagine this is sort of what they resemble at least to a degree. Lots of smoke which is very lovely but it is balanced by dark fruits, especially blackberries and a nice chocolate sauce that seems to almost coat the tongue on the finish. In a way, I would also compare this to a nice bold red wine. Really enjoyable in an unexpected way.

I was having a hard time picturing with this would be like. Aromas are tart smoked malts and a little fruit. Flavors are exactly like the nose, with carbonation enhancing the tart. Decent body with long mildly sour finish. Different and good enough, but I don't see myself looking for it again.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, frothy, fading, tan head. Fruity and mildly smoky, minimall chocolately, dark malty aroma, minimally nutty-woody hint sof chocolate, notes of cherry, later some bready, pumpernickel overtones. Taste is mildly tart, fruit acidic, slightly chocolately malty, minimally smoky, hints of black cherry, morello; minimally dry, woody finish and fruit acidic finish. Creamy texture with a watery central line, where the tartness is concentrated. Schwarzwälderkirschtorten allusions here and there.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a very transient foamy/fizzy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and berry fruit. Med body. Flavor of dark malt, dark chocolate, seemingly coffee and unusual berry fruit. Mildly tart. Not too dry. Hardly bitter. Still an interesting drink tho.
