An amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice caramel malt with floral hops, light vinous notes, very nice. In mouth, a biscuit malt with pinhey herbal hops, pink grapefruits, nice, smooth, well balanced. Bottle at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Pours a rather hazy, golden yellow with a very thick, frothy head. Floral hop/citrus aroma. Strong piney hop flavor with some citrus. Not as bitter as some IPAs. A good example of the style.

12 ounce bottle from Steve’s Mineral Point in Madison, WI. Pours a clear copper color with a large offwhite head. Decent head retention and good lacing. Fairly weak aroma but it features herbal and floral hops. The taste is bitter earthy and herbal hops and caramel malts. Medium bodied.

12 oz. bottle. $1.50 single @ Binny’s. Citrus and pine hop smell right out of the bottle is nice. Copper color, light at the edges, and a bubbly, clingy head. Taste has those hops right up front: Pine resin, Mandarin orange, then crystal malts, and an aftertaste of warm milk. I know, but that’s what I get. But it’s a winner of an APA: hoppy, mild alcohol, just what you want when you just want some big-ass hops up your nose.

Enjoyed on tap at Frank’s Power Plant in Milwaukee, WI, where my band played a show. Appearance a rather dark caramel with thin white head. Aroma mostly malt with a faint hop backing. Taste is pretty heavy for an IPA, just very bready with rich malts and a hop backing. Decent but a gut buster.

Hazy copper with a rocky white head. Leaves plenty of sticky lacing as it’s drank. Lightly hoppy aroma with some malts, too. Medium, thin body. Flavor seems to be lacking. Light hops, some malt, toast, citrus. Odd finish that is mildly bitter. Decent IPA but forgettable.

Bottle at Bodega in La Crosse. The beer is a hazy orange color with a medium foamy off-white head that dissipates steadily. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Grassy hops aroma with some earthy notes. Medium body with flavors of citrus, grassy hops and malt. The finish is hoppy with a citrusy aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 oz bottle purchased at the Four Firkins in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Bottled on May notched on the label. Pour is a slightly hazed copper golden orange with a nicely formed 2 inch light tan head. Nice lacing etches the tulip. Aroma is pine on the pour, opening up to some nice resin a biscuit sweet malt. Some honey and floral sweetness mixed in. Nice nose, not hugely fresh, but nicely balanced. Taste is pine resin up front, followed close by the caramel biscuit, though less sweet than the nose. I don’t get the honey floral in the taste either. The taste is more towards the hops, but this beer still achieves a nice balance. Palate is medium top thin bodied, lower than average carbonation and a dry, mineral, bitter finish. The bitterness lingers pretty long. Nice IPA.
