This winter, IBUs start accumulating like snow in Colorado with our new Accumulation White IPA . Brewing a white IPA was not only a way to salute the white beauty falling from the sky, but a direct revolt to the longstanding tradition of brewing dark beers for winter and winter seasonal beers. At least that’s what our rebellious brewer Grady Hull likes to claim as he shovels in plenty of new hop varietals and a bit of wheat for a smooth mouthfeel. Stack up a few cases of Accumulation White IPA to keep your long nights glowing blizzard white.

Admin Note: Brewed until 2021. Recipe changed to a hazy IPA in 2022.

Bottle. Hazy, light gold color. Huge head and tons of lace. Aroma is a delicate citrus, grapefruit. Taste is a slight sweet, citrus taste with a bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy/hazy opaque yellow color with a small white head. The aroma is mild with grapefruit, and sweetened lemons. The taste, like the aroma, also features bitter grapefruit, and sweet lemons. The palate is full and malty. Finishes medium in duration with lingering bittersweet citrus. Overall: Decent

This 12 oz can came from the city's only craft beer shop fairly recently. I noticed the label now calls this brew a Hazy IPA. Dry hopped with strata, mosaic, lotus and el dorado hops it goes on to say. 6.5% abv. A sea change apparently. I have my ABGB tulip glass ready to receive the pour, indeed a hazy milky yellow body finished by a healthy top of fully white foam that eventually levels down. The nose is tropical along with citrus and the barest indication of hops. The taste outperforms the buildup. Juice, cedar, a bit of pineapple and more bitterness than expected. Okay enough in a world consumed by the style.

Pours hazy yellow with a thick white head. Heavy aroma of lemon, citrus. Taste has woody resin, lots of grapefruit, interesting slide from a lemony zest into the aforementioned resin. Palate has plenty of citrus and dry woody notes on the nose, lingering. Interesting take.

Crisp copper and light bronze coloured body with a thinnish, single to two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light grassy and slightly herbal hops with a dash of subdued grainy and earthy malts with a touch of light sugars and very little else - fairly mild in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal hop notes up front with a big dash of grain and earthier malts with some nuts and more caramelised sugars towards the end, but the hoppiness, while slightly mild and light was noticeable near the end. Aftertaste shows the malts with the earth, light yeast and some nuts, but the caramelised sugar and toffee flavours beat out the light hoppiness that is noticeable at the end, but shows more of a grassy and lightly herbal note that isn't bitter, just showing some character. Overall, a decent beer without much of a profile and no complexity, this is kind of like a 'little stepson' of another more mass-produced Winter IPA - the Sierra Nevada Celebration. Decent to try this one, but will pass it up, unless the recipe changes from year to year? I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant's in Dearborn Michigan on 09-December-2016 for US$1,99 sampled in Dearborn a day later on 10-December-2016.
