Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 18/8/2015. Near black in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Sweetish and rich, with some chocolate truffles, dark fruits, roasted, almost charred malts, and a warming finish. Very good.

Gravity cask at the Bishop’s Stortford Beer Festival 2015, Royal British Legion. Dark brown and opaque with a pleasant tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma with a hint of smoke, but not so much as to call this a smoked beer, just a porter with smoky elements. Lovely sweet malty taste with added bitter/umami intensity from the smoked element. As usual with Grain, a winner.

On tap at Gollem Amstelstraat. Listed as a porter. Dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of some ash, roasted malts, burnt coffee, light fruity, caramel, bitter chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet, roasted malts, coffee, hint of leather/smoke, candy, roast bitter finish. Light bodied.

(Gravity) Cask @ In De Wildeman. Black color. No head. Aroma’s: sweet fruitcandies, slight smoke. Retronasal: smoky, sweet coffee, roast. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, slight smoke. Medium bodied. Finish with lots of roast, light earthy bitter.

Cask @ Three Johns, Islington, London. Dark reddish-brown with not much of a head. Has quite a mix with a very fruit sweetened nose with some roasted malt in here too. It’s a fairly smooth tasting ale with some smoked notes and some chocolate.
