2002 bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a deep amber red with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet caramel and dark fruits with a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has a good amount of oak with a bit of dark fruits and some earthy grains backing.

2002 bottle that might have been past its prime. Pours with no head, but a couple of bubbles covering a slightly hazy deep-red body. Aroma of currants and oxidation. Taste is thin oxidized, starting off with a very off note, and then finishing fruity and a bit spicey. Syrupy, but too thin.

(Re-rate, bottle, 2002 vintage, BBE Jun 2007, at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-03-12) Port wine red and hazy. Hardly any head. Raisin and malts in aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with hardly any carbonation. Malts, mämmi, raisin and light bitterness in taste. Malty and dry aftertaste.

(Bottle vintage 2002, White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 11 Aug 2007) Reddish brown colour, slightly hazy, with brief beige head. Malty, fruity, murky nose with dried fruit, apples, wood, rubbery hops, earthy hints of cellar and some kind of old cheese hanging in the air. Malty, fruity taste with dark and/or dried fruit, fruitcake, oak and murky cellar. Vinous with acidic notes of rubbery hops, red-currant, raspberries. Rather harsh, earthy, dryish finish. Oh dear, complex is the word, but the flavours have’t quite come together. More cellaring would probably be interesting.

2002 vintage.Hazy orange-brown body with a few small bubbles on its surface, but no discernible head. Tart caramely, appley aroma with soy and alcohol. A bit phenolic with hints of plastic. Dry, thin, leathery palate with apple and toast, salty. Tart but not heavy or cloying. Plummy notes in the aftertaste. Interesting.

Hazy mud brown color, no head. Strong aroma of cognac or calvados. Very flat, very soft, liquer-like mouthfeel. Brandy, glue, cream liquer, oak in the flavor. Beer to sip - like brandy with sweetness.

2002 vintage - Pourred a dark brew with almost no carbonation or head. Vinous aroma is very strong, almost like port. Alcohol taste is well balance and body is between medium to strong. It is the first time I tried an old ale and find it similar to some barleywine that I tried before. Overall, a great beer and even greater bottle with cork. I'll try to get my hand on some more of these to aged them.
