200ml cup as part of a delivery from the Japan Centre in London and drunk at home. Clear and flat. Acidic, medicinal and fairly boozy aroma. Little bit of berry, savoury herb and aniseed. Taste is indeed quite bitter with not a lot of personality. Dry finish as well. It's okay, not really my sort of sake but it'll do.

25/9/2021. Bottle sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed. Japan rating #50. Pours clear almost colourless, slightest yellow tint. Aroma of fragrant rice, rice water, hints of caramel and honeydew melon, earthy edge. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, slight carbonation. Nice warming alcohol finish, with a dry and bitter edge. Quite okay.

200ml glass cup from Japan Centre. Clear, very pale yellow colour, no head and aroma of rice, earthy, fruity. Taste is rice, some melon hints, with earthy grassy boozy notes. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, low carbonation, dry boozy finish. Quite OK.

Hojoko has quite a selection of individual serve sakes by the can or jar. Haven’t seen that many available around in liquor stores and am not familiar with any of the brands they have on the menu. I don’t know if there is a particular stigma against canned/jarred sakes.
This one comes in a clear glass cylinder. Quite jar-like. Clear, with perhaps just a touch of chill haze.
Big vanilla, floral and light coconut notes greet the nose, with some earthy, almost nutty koji notes.
In the mouth, for having dry in the name, it’s decidedly less dry than expected, though perhaps a lot of that is a more savory, umami-like flavor and a very strong rice character. Touches of alcohol dryness, lots of vanilla, floral and coconut character and a pleasant earthiness/koji character on the finish. More enjoyable with warming, despite lightly sweet, sugary-vanilla characters being more prominent. A thoroughly rice-forward sake, but one with enough other subtle character.
