The beer begins as a malty brown ale, comprised of Belgian aroma, caramel malts, and oats. A bit of lactose adds body and some sweetness, and a heaping helping of cocoa nibs in the whirlpool provides further richness, and a deep chocolaty aroma.

We worked with our great friends at Stagecoach Coffee in Cooperstown to come up with a custom coffee blend that complimented our base beer. Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, and French roast form a combination with chocolate, earth, spice, fruit, and light roast characteristics. Following primary fermentation the beer is cold crashed and yeast is removed. Coffee is added to a secondary tank and the beer is circulated through the freshly roasted beans to extract even more flavor and aroma.

On tap @ Fools Gold. This is a mild blurry deep amber colored one with a nice medium sized off-white head that's really lacing down the glass. Mild but kinda malt sweet oriented nose. Dark fruits and a little bit of chocolate as well. Nice one. Tastes really different and almost a little strange. Want to say chlorine but it's not really that either. A good amount of green coffee beans and some mild chocolate wrapper with toffee sweetness . Lots of dark berries and fruits. It's oily on the texture and just above average on the growing carbonation. Liked it more after a while. 20.06.2015

Draught @ Toronado, San Diego. Aroma has vanilla, sweet malty tones and some raisins. Flavour has funky yeasty tones typical to Belgian ales, some sweet malt and smoky notes. Also raisins and artifical chocolate. A bit unusual Belgian, but a nice one anyway.

Pours ruby-tinged mahogany into a tulip. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Sweet pit fruit and cocoa aromas. Medium bodied with sweet cocoa and hot dried pit fruit upfront turning to a lasting hot peppery finish.

Draught @ Albion. Hazy dark amber with small foamy beige head, sharp coffee aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish coffee dominated taste with the typical Belgian yeast taste at the background, full body, abrupt finish with bitter coffee beans aftertaste. Nice but coffee is too dominant.

Draft and you’d never know this was a strongy. A darker brew fer sure. Slight smell of coffee and now I see where the name comes from. Not sure what’s really going on here, not really coffee in the flavors. Some belgdy yeast effects. I guess its civilized enough to call it a Belgian. Not bad.
