Pretty enjoyable, some good roasted malt flavor, present but restrained and balancing some fairly citrusy hops. Mostly a balanced beers, the hop aroma and flavors were forward mostly because the malts were dry, not sweet. In some ways almost like a dry stout, not the bad nitro versions but a regular bottled dry stout, but hopped up. Fermentation profile was mostly neutral, and that’s nice considering the shipyard reputation for diacetyl. There are reasons to think positively about Shipyard.

Almost mahogany-tinged black into a shaker. Off-white head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Dank pine and chocolate aromas. Dark chocolate and espresso upfront turning to a nasty bitter earth finish... aftertaste is that of manure.

Tap at the Holiday Inn, Portsmouth, NH. A pitch black pour with s scummy beige head; fresh leafy hop aroma; full bodied, with a sweet caramel malt base and some sharp woody hops, and also a trace of chocolate; then a lasting crisp clean finish. A good intro to Portsmouth Beer Week!

Draft at the Thirsty Moose, Portsmouth. Black with a thin layer of white head. Light retention. Nose is roasted malts, hints of char and citrus hops. The flavor is mostly the same with some pine resin in the finish. Secondary flavor of spent coffee grounds. The body is medium leaning on thin. Overall for Shipyard this is decent.
