Draught at Brewers Fork, 5/11/17.
Clear, yet glassy, dark amber with lots of ruddy auburn highlights. Beige head fizzles to nothing immediately.
This one sounds pretty crazy on paper and definitely doesnt disappoint. Aged, yet somehow still jammy and intense raspberry notes somehow incorporate lots of sugar and you get an almost raspberry flavored honey character. Tons of spicy seed and black pepper phenols begin to balance while a strong vanilla and buttercream-like maltiness sits in the background, somewhat unfocused. Acidity definitely high yet it vies for dominance with the sugars which I do believe win out in the end. Low on any barrel character here, though theres a touch of oak which further adds to the intense richness and decadence of the beer.
In the mouth its got extremely low, rather loose concentration which is a pity as this stuff is SWEET. Yikes. Raspberry jam, honey, vanilla, cream, caramel....its all here in force. Lots of phenolic spice and yeast-driven acidity lie on the finish a bit awkwardly as they dont really balance so much as just create more intense flavors. Odd bready, sourdough and caramel suggest light-to-moderate oxidation. Definite alcohol heat here, as well. Didnt help that I had this following the stupendous Supa Momo, but regardless, this stuff is just way too sweet and flat. Sounds like age has not been kind to this one.

3oz pour at Max’s Belgian Fest 2016 pours a clear amber with some cloudy, white head. Nose has apples and apple cider vinegar, light perfume, mild wood. Flavor is well blended, orange peel, blood orange, passion fruit, apple cider vinegar, some wood, a little white grape. Tart finish. Solid.

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso. Poured a dark ruby red color with a small, mostly fizzy off-white head. Aroma was tart apples, berries, tart raspberry. Funky notes, sweet dusty finish. Highly drinkable for 8.5%.
