1991 Gold Medal Winner at GABF. Bitter is a traditional English pub draught. Extra Special defines a stronger maltier version. Our bitter is brewed using generous amounts of malt and kettle hops. This leaves the dinker with a hop aftertaste balanced with the sweetness of the malt.

on tap-pours a rich tan head that laces and amber/copper color. Aroma is mild medium malt-caramel. Taste is medium malt-caramel, secondary English/copper/earthy hops. OK/soft carbonation. OK done English style.

Draft sampler at Broad Ripple. So, this one’s had a long life for a brewpub offering. And it seems to have been refined over the years to a smooth offering today. Slightly hazy brown body. Despite being served on CO2, it’s got a light, cask-type mouthfeel. Seems to be more hops than usual for this style, in fact I get a bit of Northwestern hop notes, but just enough to make this one interesting. A touch of fruitiness or "stale beer" rounds out the glass.

From a sampler: Pours a rich amber color witha medium light beige head. Decent lacing. The aroma is fairly malty, with caramel and hops also detectable. The flavor is not overly bitter, and it has a strong malt backbone. The finish is alternating malt and hops. Not too bad.
