This lager is black in color with little to no levels of roast characteristics, similar to a European schwarzbier; however, we boosted the ABV and hopped the lager at the rate of an American IPA. The clean fermentation characteristic allows for the hops and malts to be showcased over a blank canvas. Notes of guava, pine, and citrus dominate the flavor profile, with some malt character to balance the hops.

Near black. Pine and roasted malt. Some earthy notes, too. Medium bodied. Finish has hop notes and medium bitterness. Not bad.

4oz pour at Black Squirrel pours a murky, deep amber with some tight tan head. Nose is very solid, toast and malt, grist, bread crust, soap, mild pine. Flavor is a nice blend of malt and pine, toast, light coffee, light soap. Very malty and gristy with a punch of soap. Dry finish and scary drinkable at 7.4%.

Sampled from the tap at Black Squirrel. Pours a clear brown with with a tan head that dissipates it the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a combination of dark grains and pine with light roasted malts supporting. Flavor has the same combination of dark grains and pine with a touch of bread and roasted malts supporting.

Tap. Pours clear reddish mahogany, medium tan head, nice residual and lacing. Aroma is Citrus, roasty. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, nice blend of pine and citrus hops with roasty malts. Medium body, bit of lingering bitterness. Solid.

Draft at Meridian Pint. Very dark clear maroon brown color, beige head. Aroma of light roast, light citrus. Taste is coffee and milk chocolate. OK.
