Sampled at Max’s Rare and Obscure Part 8. Pours a murky brown with ruby edges and some beige head. Nose has malty notes, toast, a little manure, mild raisin. Flavor follows, malt sweetness, hints of smoke, toast, mild cow patch. Dry finish.

On tap at Hop Cat, Ann Arbor. Very dark brown, topped by a dense, light tan head. The aroma has a nice sour, barrel-ish touch, as well as roasted malts, some dark chocolate and licorice. Funky flavor with licorice, roasted malts, some chocolate and dark dried fruits. It’s full bodied and lightly tart on the palate, with a soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Blends sourness and a nice porter in a wonderful way this one. 150615

Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Opaque brown color topped by a small creamy tan head. Nose is leathery, funky roasted malt with sour fruit bubblegum notes. The flavor is subtle, with notes of toasted malt, cocoa, Brett, leather, horsehair, sour cherries, black mulch and tropical fruit. Yeah, there is a lot going on here. It’s hugely complex, yet not "in your face" with the funk. Finishes tart and toasty with a barnyard cocoa puff cacophony.

Sampled on draft at vintage estate this beer poured a flat black color with a small tan head that left no lacing. The aroma was Brett and sweat. The flavor was tart, chalk and Brett. Long finish. Media m body but under carbonated.

On tap at Hopcat Ann Arbor. Pours deep brown to black with a light tan head. Roasty cocoa flavor with a nice brett sharpness. Flavor is similar, roast cocoa/dark chocolate with the brett and wild yeast sharpness. Often it seems like in a beer of this sort, either the brett side or the porter side has to give way to the other, but they coexist quite successfully at full strength here.

A great hybrid that brings the porter and bretta wild sense together quite well. Some roast, light bretta. Bitter sour finish. Pours black with good head and lacing. Nice, and pretty unique. Tap at Birch and Barley.
