Otter Bright was one of the original really pale beers. ‘Bright’ made her debut in the summer of ’96 but has since earned a regular place in our full time line up. Originally designed to tempt lager drinkers from the dark-side, now a well respected trendsetter in the UK.

So what can you expect when you line up your first pint of Otter Bright. Its pale golden colour enhances the great condition of the beer. The strong, citrus fruit aroma follows through into a refreshingly fruity, tasty beer. A subtle bitterness at the end balances the sweeter notes.

(Bottle 50 cl) Slightly hazy golden with a fine, white head leaving some lacework. Fine and fruity nose with a hint of elderflower. Thin-bodied with a light and fine malt character and again a subtle elderflower note, perhaps with a whiff of lemon. Fairly hoppy in the finish. A fresh summer quencher. 100807

Bottle. Yellowish golden, clear, with a white head. Mostly fruity aroma with a bready touch. Some citrus as well. Fruity bitterness in the flavor. Medium to thin body. The finish is quite fruity and citrusy. One-dimentional session-style, very refreshing. (070713)

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.3%. Pale golden colour (probably the palest British ale I’ve ever seen), slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Moderate fruity aroma. Flavour has some some citrussy notes and fairly decent hops, light bodied, dry bitter finish. In a blind test I might have guessed that this was a kölsch, or even a well-hopped pils. The lager malt used may explain that. An okay beer for a hot summer’s day, but I wouldn’t mind having some noticeable malts around, to balance the Fuggles hops. Additional notes, cask conditioned at The Three Judges, Glasgow: Pale golden colour, lagerish aroma and flavour, moderate hops. Even less impressive than from the bottle, so I keep the old rating.

Bottle: Hazy, orangey coloured, small white, firm and extremely long lasting head; mixture of malty and fruity notes in the aroma, also a bit yeasty with a distinctive touch of floral hoppiness; sweetish-bitter flavour, creamy mouthfeel; long lasting, dryer, bitter-aromatic finish; rather light bodied. Lacks a fuller body, but pleasant, refreshing and well rounded, though..................

Cask. Refreshing, lightly fruity aroma. Elderflower flavour. A little sweet. Golden colour, white head. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Light body. Nice summer drink, on a hot day it is gone in a few minutes.

[Cask at Jyske Øldage 2004, Kolding] A pale yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet and quite hoppy. The flavor is sweet hoppy that gives it a dry background and a bitter end. A simple, but nice beer.
